UAH 2017 JMI, Fitbit®‎ Challenge begins on Jan. 23.

The University of Alabama in Huntsville's (UAH) 2017 Just Move It! (JMI) fitness initiative and the first university-wide Fitbit®‎ Challenge will kick-off on Monday, Jan. 23.

UAH faculty and staff may participate in either or both of the fitness challenges. Currently, the Fitbit®‎ Challenge is only open to university employees. UAH students are eligible to participate in JMI. Additionally, the state fitness initiative, Scale Back Alabama (SBA) revised its program requirements, and will only be an eight-week program. SBA weigh ins will be Jan 11-18, from 9 a.m., to 4 p.m., in Wilson Hall, room 311 (UAH Kinesiology Department). The program will be made up of teams of two, and teams can pre-register at scalebackalabama.com.

JMI 2017 will keep most of it's regular program components. All participants will be challenged to get 150 exercise points (minutes) each week, as well as 50 bonus points. Bonus points will be awarded for selected health behaviors, seminars, and activities. For the Fitbit®‎ Challenge, participants will be looking at a number of steps taken instead of minutes of activity. Teams for the competition are based on a specific department participants are assigned to. For ease of administration, JMI will utilize the same criteria for it's teams this year. Members wishing to participate in the team competition will be assigned to the appropriate department team. Students may form their own teams.

The university-wide Fitbit®‎ Challenge will last for three weeks, ending on Feb 10. JMI will continue on for another three weeks (six week total), ending on Sunday, March 5.

The first system-wide Fitbit®‎ Challenge between The University of Alabama, The University of Alabama at Birmingham, and UAH will start Monday, March 6. The challenge will run for approximately two weeks.
