UAH presents Double Reed Day Event on Jan. 9

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) Department of Music will present a Double Reed Day event on Saturday, Jan. 9, in Roberts Recital Hall on the UAH campus.

UAH Department of Music faculty, Jennifer Scott Case (Oboe and English horn), and Hunter Thomas (Bassoon) welcome all double reed students in grades 5-12. The day begins at 9:30 a.m., with registration, a Masterclass Signup, and a short concert by Case and Thomas. The day's activities are free with lunch provided and participants get a UAH Double Reed Day T-shirt. Students will also be entered into a prize drawing. REGISTER HERE!

The event is hosted by faculty members Jen Case, and Hunter Thomas, and the UAH Department of Music.

All students are asked to bring their instruments, reeds, and reed making tools. Students need to bring a copy of their All-State music to follow along in the class. Students planning to perform in the masterclass, should bring their music and accompaniment.

The day's activities include:

  • 9:30 a.m. Registration (Masterclass Signup)
  • 10 a.m. Welcome Concert
  • 10:30 a.m. Special Topics Masterclasses [breathing, tone production, fingerings]
  • 11:30 a.m. Double Reed Choir Rehearsal
  • 12:30 p.m. Lunch (Provided by UAH)
  • 1:30 p.m. Student Performance Masterclasses
  • 2:30 p.m. All-State Music Auditions Classes
  • 3:30 p.m. Break
  • 4 p.m. Double Reed Choir Rehearsal
  • 5 p.m. Double Reed Choir Concert

Parents are welcome to attend all events where space is available and are strongly encouraged to attend the 5 p.m., Double Reed Choir Concert in Roberts Recital Hall.
