Tis the Season: UAH Peace on Earth Holiday Gala

Birmingham-based 'newgrass' band Act of Congress will be performing at this year's UAH Peace on Earth Gala Holiday Concert.

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) will present the family friendly holiday concert event Peace on Earth, Friday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m., in the Von Braun Center Concert Hall. The annual event is sponsored by the UAH College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

"This year's holiday gala features a musical performance by the acoustic quartet, Act of Congress. Together with our friends from the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, Huntsville Community Chorus, Army Materiel Command Band, our departments of music and theatre will present all your favorite holiday music in a way you've never heard, or seen before," said Dr. Dave Ragsdale, Associate Professor and Chair of the UAH Department of Music. "In it's third year, Peace on Earth has become Huntsville's must-see holiday event of the season."

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle will again give an encore performance of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore.

Special guest performers, Act of Congress (AOC) is a Birmingham-based "newgrass" band. AOC has performed throughout the United States and abroad. The group has opened in VIP areas for singing superstar John Mayer, and backed up country music star, Sara Evans and American Idol winner (2006), Taylor Hicks.

AOC is currently performing their original music at concerts, festivals and national symphonies, including the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. AOC has released two full length albums, a Christmas Eps, a live CD/DVD and the documentary, "A Week in the Life."

All proceeds from Peace on Earth ticket sales will benefit the UAH College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
