HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Oct. 23, 2013) - After a successful launch last year, The Boeing Company is once again teaming with the College of Business Administration at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) to give undergraduate students an opportunity to plan the launch of a new business.
Open to students from all majors and colleges across campus, the Boeing New Business Challenge awards up to $10,000 in scholarships that can be used for undergraduate or graduate study at UAH.
The first round will take place on Friday, Nov. 22, with a poster session. Judges and mentors will critique the ideas, provide feedback, and extend invitations to teams and individuals for the second round of competition in spring semester.
Those selected will continue to work on their business ideas with coaching and assistance from faculty and mentors, including some who may opt to further develop their ideas in one of the entrepreneurship classes offered in the spring.
The second, and final, round will take place in April, when students will submit a full business plan and give a presentation to the same panel of judges. A reception honoring the participants, as well as the scholarship presentation, will then conclude the event.
"This business plan competition is great for our students. There is a lot of entrepreneurial energy on campus and students enjoy competition," says Dr. Caron St. John, dean of the College of Business Administration. "And with funding from Boeing, we are able to channel that energy toward new business ideas and scholarship winnings."
