HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Nov. 18, 2013) - The University of Alabama in Huntsville's (UAH) Graduate School Program will host the Three Minute Thesis and Dissertation (3MT®) Competition on Friday, Nov. 22.
The competition is open to UAH master's, Ph.D., and DNP students, and will begin at 12:30 p.m., in Wilson Hall room 168. The contests are free and open to the public. Contest winners have the potential to win $400 in cash prizes at each competition. A panel of judges will determine the recipient of the $300 first place prize, and the recipient of the People's Choice Award will receive a $100 prize by receiving the most votes from the audience. The winner in the master's category will also receive an all-expenses paid trip to San Antonio, Texas to represent UAH at the regional 3MT® Competition held by the Council of Graduate Schools Deans at their annual spring meeting. This provides an excellent networking and professional development opportunity.
The three-minute public speaking exercise assists masters, Ph.D., and DNP students in developing academic presentation, and research communication skills, and supports students' efforts to concisely explain their research projects in layman's terms for a non-specialist audience. The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition was developed by The University of Queensland (Australia).
