UAH Theatre announces its 11th exciting season

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is pleased to announce UAH Theatre's 2015-2016 season.

"This is a great year for us," says Harwell, who will be awarding the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences' first bachelor of arts in theatre this December. "The season will be crafted by a combination of students, faculty, and community members, further establishing UAH Theatre as a collaborative creative outlet for north Alabama."

Up first is "The Laramie Project," a play written by Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theatre Project, and directed by Dr. Chad Thomas, assistant professor of English at UAH. Produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service and drawing on hundreds of interviews, the three-act play focuses on the public reaction to the 1998 murder of gay university student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyo. "The Laramie Project" will run Nov. 4-7 and 11-14 at 7 p.m., and Nov. 8 and 15 at 2:30 p.m.

The second is "La Serva Padrona," a pair of comic opera intermezzi written by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and directed by Dr. Aaron Cain, assistant professor of voice at UAH. Less than an hour long, the plot centers on a cunning servant called Serpina who tricks her master, Umberto, into marrying her. "La Serva Padrona" will run March 8-11 at 7 p.m., and March 12 at 2:30 p.m.

And the last is "Eurydice," a modern retelling written by Sarah Ruhl, presented by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc., and directed by Karen Baker, who teaches acting at UAH. Unlike the original myth, this interpretation gives Orpheus' wife Eurydice a choice between returning to Earth with him and staying in the underworld with her father. "Eurydice" will run April 5-8 and 12-15 at 7 p.m., and April 9 and 16 at 2:30 p.m.

"These performances explore the human condition, from man's inhumanity to man, to the afterlife itself," says Harwell. "We hope our patrons will join us as we examine the riches of life on Earth through the struggles of our fellow man."

All three shows will take place in the Wilson Theatre on the UAH campus. Tickets are available at the door or in advance by calling 256.824.6871. Cost of admission for seniors and non-UAH students is $7 and for general admission is $15. UAH students are admitted free with their student ID.
