Musicstar Jam Session is one of four software components in the Musicstar Music System. Also included in the package are a 37-key miniature MIDI keyboard controller and a MIDI cable to connect to a PC joystick port. The other three software components are reviewed separately. This program, designed for elementary and middle school students, allows the student to improvise with the computer playing an accompaniment. The accompaniments are available in ten different musical styles, with four variations of each. The student can choose the key and the tempo, as well as control the relative volume of the solo, the piano accompaniment, the bass accompaniment, and the drum accompaniment. Performances can be recorded and saved for later playback.
