Music Lab Melody offers eight ear training modules covering pitch and rhythm identification, notation, and reproduction. The Basic section of the program is appropriate for beginners, while the Advanced section is suitable for college students. In the Sing module, a tonic arpeggio is played then the student is required to sing a specified scale degree in that key. The Write module plays a short melody, asks the student to use the mouse to click on the correct rhythmic values, then select the correct pitches. Student interaction with the program is accomplished with the computer keyboard, the mouse, and a microphone. Individual and school versions of the program keep track of student progress.
