Jump Start Music is an example of a general music appreciation program for preschool and early elementary school children. The student guides Hopsalot the Rabbit through the magical Land of Music as he tries to rid the Land of sour notes. All interaction is with the computer keyboard and mouse. Musical activities involve repeating rhythms and melodies that are played by animated characters along the Blue Rhythm Road, identifying the sounds of various musical instruments, and identifying the wrong note in a four-measure phrase. The animation is especially appealing to younger students.
