Jazz Emphasis

The Jazz Emphasis at UAH is available as an option for music majors, effective August, 2004.  Students pursuing this emphasis will receive a solid foundation in "classical" music instruction in the Music Core portion of the Program of Study for the Bachelor of Arts in Music.  The jazz portion of the Program of Study includes instruction in jazz performance, jazz improvisation, jazz theory, and jazz history.

The Jazz Emphasis includes the following jazz courses:

• Jazz Combos – including Latin Jazz Ensemble (MUJ 396)
• Jazz History (MU 316)
• Jazz Theory (MU 205)
• Jazz Arranging (MU 317)
• Jazz Improvisation I (MUJ 301)
• Jazz Improvisation II (MUJ 302)
• Jazz Studio Instruction (MUJ 2xx)
