The UAH Department of Music has at least one large jazz ensemble (big band) and
three smaller jazz combos. Assignment to a specific group will depend
on the summer jazz auditions.You must audition even if you already have been offered a jazz scholarship for next year. You also must audition even if you have played in a UAH jazz group in the past.Jazz auditions for 2008-09 can be scheduled individually during the spring and summer, preferably in May. Please contact Dr. Don Bowyer to arrange an audition time: bowyerd@uah.edu or 256-824-2582. In the audition, you will play three tunes: You will play them with a recorded rhythm section, which means you must keep the tempo. All you need to do is play one time through the melody of each tune — improvisation is optional. If you choose to improvise, do so during the second chorus.
