Registration:
Registration for the clinic and all clinic
activities will take place in Roberts Hall on the UAH campus.
Directions are
here. Ample parking is available across the street at no charge,
with no need for special decals or passes. Look for signs directing
you to Roberts Recital Hall upon your arrival. Registration will be
open from 9 AM until 10 AM, whereupon you will receive a packet of
information for the clinic weekend, a nametag which you should wear
during your stay on campus, and where you will pay the $10 clinic
fee with either cash or check (made payable to UAHuntsville Music
Department).
Warm-up:
After you register, the building will be
available to you for practice and warm up for your chair audition.
Plenty of signs will help you find your way around. Obviously, the
earlier you register, the more time you will have to warm-up.
Conversely, for those students who do not play a chair audition,
feel free to arrive closer to the end of the registration hour.
General Meeting and Auditions:
A general meeting of everyone in the Honor
Wind Ensemble will begin at 10 AM in the Roberts Recital Hall. At
that time, we will introduce you to the folks you need to know, and
direct you to the appropriate areas for chair auditions and
masterclasses.
Meals:
On Friday, both lunch and dinner is provided
in the University Dining Hall at no charge to you. Your Honor Wind
Ensemble nametag will serve as your admission to both meals, which
are all-you-can-eat. The dining hall features a large salad bar, in
addition to stations of various hot menus from meat and vegetables
to pasta and fast food. Hot tip: the cookies are GREAT!
J Due to the freedom of
Saturday’s clinic schedule, no meals will be provided.
University Opportunities:
While you’re on our campus for the clinic,
several opportunities will be available to you for further
examination of UAHuntsville as a potential choice for your college
education:
·
At the 10 AM General Meeting, the Office of Admissions
will be available for questions and general university information.
·
Your lunch is generously sponsored by the
Office of Admissions where
admissions counselors will be on hand to answer any questions you
may have.
·
On Saturday, at the conclusion of the morning
rehearsal, several great options are available to both you and your
family.
o
The University Ambassadors are offering campus tours,
weather permitting, beginning at Roberts Hall at 12:15. You will
need to RSVP for the campus tour on Friday morning at the clinic
Registration.
o
The Department of Music is happy to hear you audition
on Saturday afternoon for a variety of opportunities. You may
audition for Music Department acceptance for Fall 2009, or for
Scholarship opportunities for both music majors and non-music
majors for Fall 2009. We will arrange these auditions for you
around your campus tour, if you desire one, and the rehearsal
schedule on Saturday. You must indicate your interest in this
special audition during the Registration process on Friday morning.
Concert Attire:
Dress for the concert on Saturday is very
simple – it is whatever your high school band wears for concert
performances. For some, this may be band uniforms, for others,
tuxedos or concert black or Sunday dress. If more than one person is
attending the clinic from your school, please make sure you confer
with them about their attire so that there is uniformity from school
to school.
Parents:
Parents are welcome to attend any of the
clinic sessions, campus tours, and even meals (they must pay $6.75
per person at the door) with exception, of course, to auditions and
masterclasses. Also, please remind them that it is the policy of the
Music Department to charge a flat general admission charge of $5 per
person for the concert performance.
Absenteeism:
Clearly, you have been specially selected
for this clinic and have communicated to me your commitment to
attend. Any last minute no-shows will compromise the integrity of
the clinic as well as reflect poorly on you, your band, and your
school.
