Karen Young (Soprano) received her M.M. degree in Vocal Performance from Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama where she studied private voice from Dr. David Smith. Her education also includes master’s classes and/or coachings with Patricia Wise, Carol Vaness, Fredrica von Stade, Martin Katz, Joan Dornemann, Nico Castel, Richard Miller, Virginia Zeani, Mary Dibbern, David Aronson (Wien Staat Oper), and Ellen Rissinger (Dusseldorf Opera).

Ms. Young’s operatic/musical theatre credits include Nedda (Pagliacci), Magda Sorel (The Consul), Suor Angelica (Suor Angelica), Desdemona (Otello), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Mrs. Nolan (The Medium), Aldonza (The Man of La Mancha), Mary Magdalene (Jesus Christ Superstar), and the premier role of Elsie Hickam in Rocket Boys, the Musical.

In 2007, Ms. Young was one of forty vocalists chosen to participate in the University Of Miami Frost School Of Music, Salzburg Program in Salzburg, Austria. In 2004, she was a quarter finalists in the American Traditions Competition (Savannah Music Festival). Ms. Young is voice instructor at UAHuntsville where she is actively involved in the emerging opera and musical theatre programs, as well as teaches a full voice studio of vocal majors and minors.
