Lauren Wilson Carter, a native of Cincinnati, has been a piano instructor for the past 18 years and is currently a member of the piano faculty at UAH and Ars Nova School of the Arts in Huntsville, Alabama. She has been teaching piano and theory to a wide range of students from young to college-age and beyond. She received the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in piano performance degrees from Ohio Wesleyan University and Jacksonville State University. She has done additional study at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio State University, University of Louisville and Interlochen Arts Academy. Lauren has studied with teachers Charles Clevenger, Robert Lawrence, Lee Luvisi, and Yakov Kasman. She is also on staff as organist/pianist at Valley United Methodist Church in Huntsville.

Lauren Carter has been a clinician at Alabama Music Teachers Association Conventions and an adjudicator for district and state-level competitions in Alabama and Tennessee. She is a member and has held offices in organizations such as the Huntsville Piano Teachers Forum, The Huntsville Music Appreciation Group, National Guild of Piano Teachers and Alabama Music Teachers Association. In addition to teaching, she has given recitals in numerous states and is an active accompanist. She was also a participant in the Van Cliburn Third International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs in Fort Worth in 2002.

She states. "I want my students to learn, love and appreciate music. My goal is to make them musically independent. Not all of my students are going to be music majors or professional musicians. I just hope they are learning fundamentals which will enable them to learn music on their own and give them great pleasure in their lives.".
