Dr. Don Bowyer is Chair of the Department of Music at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he teaches Jazz and Music Technology.  Dr. Bowyer received the Doctor of Arts in Trombone Performance and Jazz Pedagogy at the University of Northern Colorado, and has taught at every level from pre-kindergarten through university in the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Sweden.

Bowyer's creative activities include music software development, music composition, and performance.  His interests in music technology are focused on the field of computer-assisted-instruction in music, with a particular interest in Internet and handheld PDA delivery.  He is the creator of Dolphin Don's Music School, an educational computer game that teaches music theory and ear training for children.

Bowyer has 37 compositions and arrangements published with Walrus Music Publishing, UNC Jazz Press, TAP Music Sales, and Cimarron Music & Productions.

As a trombonist, Bowyer has performed in nearly 40 countries on five continents, having worked as a bandleader, a soloist, and an orchestra member with artists including Ray Anderson, Dave Brubeck, Betty Carter, Charo, the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, Phyllis Diller, the Fifth Dimension, the Four Freshmen, Jack Jones, the Guy Lombardo Orchestra, Al Martino, Bobby McFerrin, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, James Moody, Tommy Newsome, the Platters, Mavis Rivers, the Spinners, Fred Travalena, and the West Virginia Chorale.  He also spent five years playing trombone on eleven cruise ships in the Caribbean Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Gulf of Alaska. The first ten didn't sink.
