"Instrumental Extravaganza"

The UAH Department of Music will present a special "Instrumental Extravaganza" concert on Friday, March 28, at 7:30pm in the Von Braun Center Concert Hall.  This concert will feature the university's premiere instrumental ensembles, the UAH Wind Ensemble and the UAH Jazz Ensemble, with special guest artists Mr. Ken Watters, Dr. Carolyn Sanders, and Dr. Margery Whatley.

The UAH Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. C. David Ragsdale, will present a program that includes:

  • Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin, with Margery McDuffie Whatley (UAH faculty) as piano soloist.

  • Concerto for Two Trumpets by Antonio Vivaldi, with Carolyn Sanders (UAH faculty) and Ken Watters as trumpet soloists.

  • World Premiere of Four Winds by Don Bowyer (UAH faculty)

  • World Premiere of Battling Introversions by Xavier Roberson (UAH student)

The UAH Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Don Bowyer, will feature Mr. Watters on trumpet performing:

  • Fig Connection by Newt Johnson (UAH alumnus)

  • Night Freeway by Mitsuru Kitade (UAH student)

  • L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole, arranged by Andrew Palmer (UAH alumnus)

  • Comin' Home by Jody Stiles (UAH student)

  • Somerset Road by Ken Watters, arranged by Don Bowyer (UAH faculty)

  • April Third by Ken Watters, arranged by Don Bowyer (UAH faculty)

Please note that this concert is not on campus:  it will be in the Von Braun Center Concert Hall.  This special event is the first opportunity in modern times to hear these outstanding ensembles in a truly professional venue.  Mark the date on your calendar now!

Advance tickets are available now from the UAH Music office.  General admission is $5; students are admitted free.
