MAE Graduate Student Student Shushannah Smith Receives Pre-Doctoral Ford Fellowship Award

Da Vinci's Virtruvian ManThe Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is proud to announce that Shushannah Smith has been selected as an awardee in the highly prestigious Ford Foundation Fellowship 2012 predoctoral competition. This fellowship is sponsored by the Ford Foundation and administered by the National Research Council of the National Academies. Her selection is based on the review panelist's judgement of Shushannah's scholarly competence as well as her promise for future achievement as a scholar, researcher, and teacher in an institution of higher education. The predoctoral fellowship will provide funding for three years of study in a doctoral program.

Approximately 60 predoctoral fellowships are awarded nationwide to students from the following fields: American studies, anthropology, archaeology, art and theater history, astronomy, chemistry, communications, computer science, cultural studies, earth sciences, economics, engineering, ethnic studies, ethnomusicology, geography, history, international relations, language, life sciences, linguistics, literature, mathematics, performance study, philosophy, physics, political science, psychology, religious studies, sociology, urban planning, and women’s studies. Also eligible are interdisciplinary ethnic studies programs, such as African American studies and Native American studies, and other interdisciplinary programs, such as area studies, peace studies, and social justice.
