Login Assistance:
When you sit down at the computer, you will probably see on your screen a box instructing you to press "CTRL-ALT-DEL." After you press those keys simultaneously, you will see a dialog box with three fields. By filling in the information in these fields, you can access your very own desktop where you can find class files and store the documents you create, not just for this semester, but for your entire time at UAH. Here's how to log on:
Logging on
-
In the first field in the dialog box, enter your username. This will be the first part of your UAH assigned email account. Click here to look up your UAH email address.
NOTE: If you have notified UAH of another email address, your lab login will still be the UAH-assigned email address, the part before the @ sign.
-
In the second field, enter your password. The password is the last 4 digits of your new Banner ID (UAH ID number). To change this password to something more secure, see the directions below.
-
In the third field, you will see two choices. You should click on "TRIPOD." That choice accesses the library's server. The other choice would access just your workstation's hard drive.
Changing your password
To get back to the window that will allow you to change your password, press "CTRL-ALT-DEL." One of the choices you'll see will be "Change Password." Click on that choice; then follow the on-screen prompts.
What makes a good password?
- Be sure to choose a password you can remember! In fact, it's a good idea to use the same password for all your UAH accounts.
- Use a combination of letters, digits, and punctuation symbols. There is no minimum number of characters, but it is generally true that a password using fewer than 4 characters is less secure than one using 5, 6, or 7 characters.
Library InfoArcade (First Floor Reference Area)
The Salmon Library InfoArcade provides 46-workstations for various student research/class assignment needs. The InfoArcade is available on the first floor in the south wing of the Library and is open during regular library hours. A reference librarian is available at the Reference desk outside the arcade to assist with class assignments and other research needs.
In the InfoArcade, current UAH students may access 10 infoarcade computers that provide special software products such as the Microsoft Office® suite by logging on with their UAH e-mail prefix as the user name and the last 4 numbers of their student id number as the password. Not sure of your UAH e-mail id? Go to the UAH Directory to obtain your e-mail id.
Reserving a Library Lab
If you are planning to use one of the library labs for your class, first please check the lab calendars for availability.
Colleges with primary use of a lab are responsible for scheduling classes in that lab and sending the schedule to the library dean’s office before the start of each semester. Specifics are as follows:
-
Liberal Arts lab - room 211: All requests for use of the Liberal Arts lab should go through the dean’s office, 824-6540, including scheduling classes for a semester and any one-time uses or meetings.
-
Nursing lab - room 210: All requests for use of the Nursing lab should go through the office of the Nursing school, 824-6669. Open for general use by Nursing students at various times – check with the Nursing School.
-
MLC – room 205: The Math Learning Center is for use by the Math department only, for classes and independent study.
-
Library/DL lab – room 206: The Library and Distance Learning lab is used by the library. Any requests to use this lab should go to Jack Drost at 824-7407. The lab is locked between scheduled classes.
-
Library lab II – room 207: This lab is used by the library. Any requests to use this lab should go to Jack Drost at 824-7407. The lab is locked between scheduled classes.
Note to Instructors: you must notify Jack Drost (824-7407) in advance if you need to use the lab for final exams.
UAH Computer Usage Policies
Please note: Computer usage in the Salmon Library is subject to the guidelines outlined in the UAH General Computer Use Policy and also the policy of the University's Internet provider, AREN (Alabama Research and Education Network. Computer usage in the library is for class assignments and research purposes only.
Students are expected to be familiar with these policies and adhere to them at all times when using any university computer. The library systems staff does monitor the use of the computers in the library and students may be asked to leave the lab and may be barred from using library computers if they violate the computer use policies.
General Policies
