About Reserves
- You must be a current UAH student enrolled in the instructor's class to be eligible to check out reserves.
- You must have your UAH I.D. Card with you in order to check out any reserve item.
- All Reserve materials are listed on the Library's iLink page, by the instructor's name. They may not be browsed behind the reserves desk, nor handled by the patron before they have been checked out.
- Reserves with checkout times less than 24 hours may not leave the library.
- Do not remove staples from reserve items.
Reserves Information for UAH Instructors & Students
Reserves are materials set aside by UAH instructors to be checked out by students who are enrolled in those instructors' classes. These materials may be photocopies of articles, electronic media, books from the UAH Library's circulating collection, or an instructor's personal copies of books and materials. Instructors should consult the Reserves Coordinator before submitting any media that may require special handling.
Instructors:
- Instructors submitting reserves must fill out a Reserves Request Form, available at the Circulation Desk.
- Requests, along with the materials to be placed on reserve, should be submitted at least 72 hours before the materials need to be available.
- Reserves Request Forms should be filled out completely, as any missing information may cause delays in processing requests.
- Instructors are encouraged to submit copies of their syllabi with their requests.
- Reserve materials should be organized in discrete bound units. Materials which contain multiple parts which are not bound fast together, but which the instructor wishes to be circulated as one item are permissible, but only with the instructor's understanding that such materials may tempt students not to return all parts.
- The Instructor placing reserves should choose a Circulation Rule based on the needs of the students. The Circulation Rule determines the length of time reserves may be checked out. There are six Circulation Rules available: one, two or three hours for in-library reserves and twenty-four hours, three days or one week for reserves that may leave the library.
- The instructor should advise students that all Reserve materials are kept behind the Circulation Desk, sorted first by the Instructor's name and then by course number.
Students:
- Students requesting reserves will be expected to know the instructor's name and the course number and be able to describe the material they need.
- Students are required to present their UAH I.D. Card in order to check out reserves materials. If the student does not have his/her UAH I.D. Card, or if the student's library privileges are out of date, checkout will not be permitted.
- Students should be aware that fines on overdue reserve items accumulate at $0.25 per hour, per item, starting from the first minute they become overdue and that the fines accrue to a maximum amount of $100.00 per overdue reserves item.
- Students will not be permitted to handle reserves that are not checked out to them, in order to maintain the integrity of the reserves system.
- Students who are unsure of what they need may browse the reserves collection through the library catalog. Any questions about how to do so should be directed to the Reference Librarian on duty.
Other questions about Reserves should be directed to Judy Biegler (bieglerj@uah.edu),
the Reserves Coordinator for the UAH, Salmon Library.
