Personality, Assessment, and Testing

Dr. Seemann's Personality, Assessment, and Testing Lab investigates issues such as psychological reactance, test construction and validation, normal personality theory and assessment, intellectual assessment, and assessment and therapy issues specific to forensic populations such as inmates, probationers/parolees, and sex offenders. Current lab projects involve psychological reactance, comparing modes of psychological testing, and testing the ability of certain personality tests to correctly identify intentional deception. We hope to gain access to a forensic population (such as inmates or sex offenders) in the near future and begin studies with them as well. The ultimate goal of our research is clinical utility; we hope that the questions we ask and answer will eventually increase the efficiency and improve the outcome of human service efforts such as counseling and psychotherapy, psychological assessment, and the management and delivery of services to incarcerated populations.
