Two UAH science students named Goldwater scholars

Two students in UAHuntsville's College of Science — Brittany Agius and Danielle Nuding — have been named Goldwater scholars for the 2008-2009 academic year. The Goldwater scholarships program awards about 300 scholarships each year to some of the top undergraduate science and engineering students in the U.S.

Agius is a senior double majoring in chemistry and biology. She has been working in UAH's Natural Products Group and in 2007 spent three weeks in Costa Rica collecting plant material. She plans to get a Ph.D. in pharmacology and do research in drug discovery and metabolism.

Nuding is a senior majoring in physics with minors in mathematics and atmospheric science. For the past two years she worked with Dr. Mike Newchurch doing atmospheric ozone research. Recently she started working with NASA, analyzing data from the Spirit rover on Mars. She plans to get a Ph.D. in either atmospheric science or planetary science, working toward a career as an astronaut.
