Submission Policy
UAH Headlines is a weekly electronic news and information service for UAH faculty and staff. Information or announcements submitted for consideration will be subject to editing.

To submit an item, please send all information to headlines@uah.edu by 5 PM, on Wednesday before the Monday distribution.

To receive consideration, items and events:
- Should have broad, campus-wide appeal.
- Should be open to all faculty and staff and important to the campus community.
- Must be held on the UAH campus.
- Announcements of off-campus events can be published only if there is a strong University connection.
- Under no circumstances will commercial activities be posted.

As a rule, announcements will not be repeated unless they are deemed by the Office of Marketing and Communications to be of significant importance to the campus community as to outweigh other considerations.

Alabama Small Business Development Center Seminar (Sessions I-2)
Session I "NASA MSFC Source Evaluation Board Overview," 8:30 a.m., to noon. NASASME Luncheon
The North Alabama Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers will host the final meeting of the 2015-2016 academic year at 11:30 a.m., in the Von Braun Research Hall room M-50. The UAH Design Team will present the results of their work to design and build arm supports for children and adults with cerebral palsy. UAH College of Nursing Pinning Ceremony
The Spring College of Nursing Pinning Ceremony will begin at 3 p.m., in the Von Braun Center South Hall. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.

Panoply 2016
Panoply is Huntsville's premier arts weekend where an innovative spark shines through a festival of art, music, and more in downtown Big Spring Park. Day passes are $10 and weekend passes are $18; kids 12 and under are free! UAH Spring Commencement Ceremony
2 p.m., Von Braun Center Propst Arena. The Commencement speaker will be U.S. Senator for Alabama Jeff Sessions. A reception for graduates, families, and friends will immediately follow the ceremony.

Leadercast 2016 "Architects of Tomorrow"
This year, the annual event is themed "Architects of Tomorrow." Leadercast is a one-day leadership event broadcast live from Atlanta directly to communities around the world, including UAH from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., in the UAH Conference Training Center (formerly the UC Exhibit Hall). » UAH Dining Services Exam Week Treat Specials
Dining Services will be hosting an exam special table in Charger Union during the week of finals. The table will serve treats, coffee, and lots of encouragement while students are hunkered down studying. All UAH department members are welcome to enjoy treats during one of the times listed below:
  • Monday, April 25 from 9 p.m. - midnight - Sweet treats such as cookies, brownies, donuts, and coffee
  • Tuesday, April 26 from 9 p.m. to midnight - A popcorn bar complete with various toppings and mix-ins and coffee
  • Wednesday, April 27 from 9 p.m. to midnight sweet treats such as cookies, cupcakes, donuts, and coffee.

» UAH/American Behavioral Life Improvement Seminar

The UAH Human Resources Department Life Improvement seminar based on Dr. Ann Kulze's "Eat Right for Life Plan," Tuesday, April 26, 11:30 a.m.Click here to register. It's about eating whole foods and limiting the amount of processed foods we eat. The presentation will focus on five tenets of good nutrition:

1. Conquer Your Carbs - learn which carbs are good and which are not and why (i.e. sweet potatoes vs. white potatoes, brown rice vs. white rice, etc.)
2. Give Yourself an Oil Change - learn about good fats and bad fats
3. Get Obsessed with Fruits and Veggies
4. Select Healthy Proteins

» Export Compliance Presentation offered May 5
"International Traffic in Arms and Export Administration Act: Why it Matters to UAH," will be presented, Thursday, May 5, from 10 a.m., to 11:30 a.m. at the UAH Conference Training Center. Guest presenter will be Ariel Leinwand, Special Agent Bureau Of Industry and Security Office (BIS), Office of Export Enforcement. Attendees of this presentation will receive credit for their required annual export training.  For those individuals with personnel security clearances this will also count as their required annual refresher security training. RSVP to denise.spiller@uah.edu.

» New User Interface is coming to Canvas
Canvas will update its user interface on Thursday, May 5. While many features will continue to look and feel as they do now, others will change. The new interface is designed to be more responsive and should require fewer clicks for basic navigation. Additionally, the interface has been designed to be more usable for those on mobile devices and those requiring screen readers. The two main components of the new user interface will be the Dashboard and the Global Navigation Menu. Please contact the OIT Help Desk with any questions by emailing helpdesk@uah.edu or by calling 256.824.3333.

First-time freshmen (graduating high school seniors) planning to enroll for the Summer and/or Fall 2016 terms are required to attend Freshman Orientation.  Register Now. Schedule of events coming soon.  Each session begins at 12:30 p.m., on Day 1 and concludes on Day 2 at 1 p.m.

» UAH to open Early Learning Center
The UAH Early Learning Center (ELC) will officially open on campus Wednesday, Aug. 17. The ELC is now accepting applications for enrollment. The early childhood education program will serve all learners from age nine months to school entry. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Before-School Care is offered from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., and After-School Care is offered from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The location is the site of University Place School at 4503 University Drive. The University Preschool Learning Center will no longer operate on the UAH campus as of Monday, Aug. 1, 2016.
