Dr. Robert R. Jennings

Dr. Robert R. Jennings was named 10th president of Alabama A&M University in January 2006.
Prior to assuming this role, Dr. Jennings served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Future Focus 2020 at the Babcock Graduate School of Management for Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N. C.
Dr. Jennings earned the B.A. degree in sociology from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga., in 1972. He received the M. A. degree in educational psychology (1974) and an Ed.S. degree in interrelated learning (1979) from Clark Atlanta University. In 1982, Jennings also earned a Doctor of Education degree in educational administration and policy studies from Clark Atlanta University. In 1978, Jennings served as a Fulbright-Hays Fellow assigned to the Institute of Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil.
In his capacity at Future Focus 2020, Jennings was responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of an agency dedicated to engaging minority communities in a national discussion about the future, and to identify the significant social, technological, economic, environmental, and political trends and events that will have the greatest impact on such communities by the year 2020.
Dr. Jennings’ service to higher education is extensive. From 1979-82, he was an adjunct professor and grant coordinator for the School of Education, Atlanta University Graduate School. He taught courses from 1982-84 as an associate professor in the Education and Psychology Department of Morris Brown College (Ga.). Jennings also served as a dissertation advisor for students in the areas of public and educational administration, management and public policy in his role as an adjunct professor for the Union Graduate School in Cincinnati, Ohio. From 1985-88, the long-time educator and administrator served as Executive Vice President to the President for Institutional Development and Alumni Affairs at Atlanta University.
Dr. Jennings' contributions to government agencies include stints as a Loaned Executive to the Office of the Administrator, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., 1986-87; Equal Opportunity Specialist (Atlanta District Office) and Employee Development Specialist and Lead Trainer, U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Washington, D.C., 1979-85. In 1999, he represented the U.S. Embassy and U. S. State Department as a consultant/trainer at the University of Naimey in Niger, Africa.
