Mentors Retreat

UAH Honors College whitewater rafting retreat on the Ocoee River

On September 20th, 2014, the Honors College Mentors went whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River for a retreat.

The Mentor program matches more experienced students with incoming freshmen in the same major. Mentors help students to adjust to college life, advise them on studying and how to succeed in class. They also connect them with other students in their major and help them build a network of friends.

As a team-building exercise, it doesn't come much better than rafting the Ocoee. With the help of their guide, the boat crews must work together to get through class 3 and class 4 rapids. Which isn't to say it's not fun. It's a blast. It was a beautiful early fall weekend, with a warm sun in a crystal blue sky, and if we took an occasional swim, that just made it that much better.
