Tryston Gilbert: Honors Student in the Spotlight
Major: Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
From: Whitwell, TN
Our current Honors student in the spotlight is Tryston Gilbert. Tryston is one of the 31 seniors set to graduate with an Honors Diploma this academic year.
Where are you from and what high school did you attend?
I'm originally from the small town of Whitwell, Tennessee, which lies west of Chattanooga in the Sequatchie Valley. I attended Whitwell High School, and graduated there in 2009 with a class of about 80 people.
What is your major and class here at UAH?
I am an Aerospace Engineering Major with a Communication Arts Minor. This semester marks the beginning of my fifth year here, so I'll be part of the graduating class of 2014.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I would like to take some time off of school to work in my field while pursuing my hobbies and enjoying my youth. I'm hoping that the time free from school will give me the clarity to decide whether I want to pursue a Master's degree. I will likely stay involved with UAH for at least a few years as a staff member at the Rotorcraft Systems Engineering and Research Center.
What else are you involved in on campus?
I am involved in Charger Rocket Works for my Senior Design Project Course. I've also helped plan the semesterly Humans vs. Zombies game for the past several semesters, which I think is one of the most creative and enjoyable extra-curricular activities this campus offers.
What are your thoughts on the Honors College? How has it impacted your time at UAHuntsville?
The Honors College (Honors Program when I started here) was my initial link to many of the people I still call friends and associates. The courses that the College offered have been extremely eye-opening, and the spirit of discussion that my peers and I developed has survived in every aspect of our lives.
