First Time Freshmen

Students should first apply for admission to UAH. See Admissions & Aid for complete information.

The application for the Fall 2024 freshmen Honors class is now open. The priority deadline is April 8, 2024. Please contact the Honors office if you have any questions at (256) 824-6450.

UAH Honors recognizes the difficulties students face in taking standardized tests such as the ACT and SAT. Accordingly, we are implementing a test-optional policy for Honors admission for the 2024-25 admission cycle. We will still consider test scores if submitted, but we want to stress that test scores are not required for admission into Honors this year.

  • Admission to Honors requires an application and is not automatic.
  • Admission is based upon a holistic review of candidates that considers high school transcripts, activities, leadership, and application essays. To be considered, you must have a minimum 3.5 high school GPA. In special cases, because of the holistic review, students who fall below the minimum standards may be accepted.
  • While test scores are not required this year, the middle 50% of ACT scores among students accepted to the UAH Honors College ranged between 26 and 34 (SAT 1260 - 1540).

  • The average high school GPA of current Honors Students is 4.2.

  • There is no application fee.
