Honors Student Profile
Feb. 8, 2012
Christina Lee
Our current Honors student profile is Christina Lee. Christina has been instrumental in building our Honors community and coordinating this year's Honors student activities. She's currently serving as President of the Honors Program Student Council.
Originally from South Korea, Christina has been living in the U.S. since 5th grade. She attended Sparkman High School in Harvest, AL. She is currently a sophomore majoring in Chemistry with Biology minor and hope to pursue MD/PhD. She is considering UAB, University of South Alabama, Vanderbilt University, and other research-focused universities to apply to the MD/PhD program. She plans to focus on biochemical and clinical research after graduation. Christina also wants to be able to teach and mentor students who will be pursuing a similar path.
While serving as President of the HPSC, Christina has been involved in planning many successful social activities and community service projects. Under Christina's leadership, Honors students have participated in a food drive for the Huntsville Downtown Rescue Mission, volunteered their time to put together shoeboxes full of toys and necessities for children in Guatemala and will be helping Habitat for Humanity later this month.
Christina will be traveling to Tampa, FL in March to represent the UAHuntsville Honors Program at the Southern Regional Honors Conference. At the conference, she will be giving a poster presentation on her current research in PDMS (Polydimethylsiloxane) Polymer Surface Modification with Dr. Waddell, currently working to attach silver onto the PDMS surface. This can prevent the attachment of biological molecules like protein on specific areas of the metallized PDMS surface.
In addition to being an Honors student and President of the HPSC, Christina has served as an orientation leader for WOW (Week of Welcome). WOW orientation leaders helped coordinate over 40 events during the Week of Welcome. She also serves as a Science Ambassador for the College of Science and currently is preparing for the Science Olympiad.
