Joint Undergraduate Master's Program

Joint Undergrad Master's Program (JUMP)college students

The University of Alabama in Huntsville has a Joint Undergraduate Master's Program (JUMP) where undergraduate students can study at the graduate level.  By taking graduate courses in their senior year they could potentially reduce the time taken to get a graduate (MS) degree. Students who wish to pursue a MS degree will benefit from this program.

Joint Undergraduate-Master's Program (JUMP) Program Parameters

  1. Students apply for admission through their department using the JUMP application.
  2. Students may only apply to programs previously approved. (See procedures for approval of a joint undergraduate/graduate program)
  3. The admission standards for each approved program apply; however students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA to apply.
  4. GRE is not required.
  5. Students may apply as early as two years, but no later than one year, prior to their expected graduation.
  6. Students taking courses offered at the 500 level and above ad must meet the normal graduate academic standards for the courses.
  7. Students are considered undergraduate students until all requirements for their undergraduate degree are met.
  8. Students will pay undergraduate tuition for the graduate courses approved as part of the JUMP program. If students take more than the number of graduate hours approved, they must pay graduate fees for the courses.
  9. Students must make a B in each graduate course for it to count towards their graduate degree.
  10. Students cannot hold a GTA, GRA, or graduate scholarship or fellowship until their undergraduate degree is completed.
  11. Students must take the courses that are listed on their application to the program. Only courses taken at UAHuntsville are eligible. These must be included in the undergraduate program of study to be counted towards their bachelor's degree. If a change is made, both a JUMP change form and a change of POS form must be submitted for approval.
  12. If their GPA is at least a 3.0 for their total undergraduate degree, then they become a regular unconditional admit to grad school upon completion.
  13. If the GPA is less than a 3.0 for the undergraduate degree, the student does not receive admission to the graduate program automatically after they finish their undergraduate degree. They must then apply to the graduate school with an admission test score (GRE, GMAT...) and their courses will be treated as if they had been a non-degree graduate student and now wanted to become degree seeking. Up to 12 hours taken in the combined program with a grade of B or better could then be used in the graduate degree program if they were admitted.
  14. The six year time limit for courses in the masters programs starts when the courses are taken, even if they are taken as part of the undergraduate program. Validation procedures are the same as for any graduate student.
  15. International students must be issued a new I-20 for their graduate program and must submit new financial documents, the same as if they were going from undergraduate to graduate school at UAH without the combined program. To accomplish this they should see the international graduate admissions office within the first two weeks of the semester in which they graduate.
