Facilities
UAH seeks funds from donors to help support the creation of facilities. These facilities support the
teaching, research, and service mission of the university. Presently, fund-raising drives are underway
to build the following facilities:
College of Science
Technological advances in laboratory instrumentation occur regularly in all areas of science. To
prepare our students for the real world, we need to constantly improve our teaching laboratories to
keep pace with technology:
Biotechnology Wing
Our new Biotechnology Ph.D. program will need space for research and teaching laboratories. We need
funds for a biotechnology wing for the Optics Building/Materials Science Building to accommodate the
new teaching and research space.
Science Classroom Building
The teaching laboratories for biology, chemistry, and physics are now crowded into Wilson Hall.
The small number of teaching labs forces us to use the same room for a variety of classes, often with
incompatible equipment. There also is a shortage of classrooms seating 30 to 50 students. We need
a building dedicated to science classrooms and teaching laboratories.
Computer and Mathematical Sciences Building
The Department of Mathematical Sciences shares Madison Hall with many administrative units.
Mathematics is so cramped that part-time instructors do not have space to hold office hours.
Mathematics also is located far from Computer Science, a closely related department. This makes
teaching and research collaborations between the departments difficult. We need support for a new
building that Math will share with Computer Science.
Planetarium
In order to teach our students basic concepts about the sky, faculty have to use the Von Braun
Planetarium on Monte Sano many miles from campus. We need funds to build a planetarium on campus
to make planetarium instruction more accessible to our students.
M. Louis Salmon Library
UAH already has secured funds to build a new library wing, and now seeks funds to fully equip the
new wing as a state-of-the-art center for learning and research. The new addition will serve as
a gateway to vast networks of research libraries and information resources worldwide. This will
allow students, faculty, and the community to utilize both the traditional world of print information
and the burgeoning world of digital information.
Your generous gift will make a difference in the development of this outstanding new library.
Provided below is a description of some of the giving opportunities.

the donor in honor or memory of an individual, family, corporation, or foundation. A permanent
plaque will be prominently displayed in the area. For other gifts, a nameplate that identifies
the donor will be permanently affixed to the item that the gift purchased.
Intercollegiate Athletics
To continue building upon the momentum of UAH’s successful athletics programs, we are presented
with a challenge to obtain the tools essential to supporting programs of athletic and academic
distinction. Existing athletic facilities at UAH are inadequate to provide for programs that
continue to expand and excel.
Currently, no on-campus facilities exist for our baseball or softball programs. We also lack
practice facilities for soccer and competition-quality facilities for tennis. Travel and security
issues with off-campus facilities create budget and student attendance problems. Finally, existing
facilities for athletic training and basketball are in need of significant renovations.
Our challenge is to develop an on-campus sports complex and renovate existing facilities to help
foster a more traditional campus environment that will both enrich the quality of life for students
and foster the continued growth of academic and athletic achievement. Expansions and improvements
will improve safety and access, increase student support, and strengthen both academic and athletic
recruitment. Additionally, such facilities will eliminate costs for rental of outside sports venues
while producing new revenue through the sales of tickets and concessions.
You can make a difference. Your generous support can assist in providing:
Renovations
Revised athletic training facilities
Gymnasium reconditioning
New Facilities
Charger baseball stadium
Charger softball stadium
Charger tennis courts
Charger soccer fields
Naming opportunities exist for and within each of the facilities listed above. As always,
opportunities also exist for providing unrestricted support for the annual and on-going operations
of the Athletics Department as well as for endowed and annual scholarships for athletes.
