Outside Scholarships
Outside scholarships are not funded by UAHuntsville, nor are we involved in the application or recipient selection process. The Office of Student Financial Services assists outside scholarship recipients by providing enrollment certifications or invoices when requested. Checks for outside scholarship awards are processed through our office and should be mailed to the following address:

Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program: Abbott and Fenner Business Consultants are pleased to be able to continue with their scholarship program for the 4th year. Applicants submit an essay on the following topic: What do you see as the long term impact of our current recession on the average family and how might it affect their future decisions?
ACEC/Alabama Richard A. Groenendyke Scholarship: The American Council of Engineering Companies of Alabama awards two Richard A. Groenendyke scholarships each year to qualifying engineering students. Students must be entering their junior, senior, fifth, or master’s degree year, in the fall of 2014 to qualify. In addition, student applicants must be a United States citizen pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering or in an accredited land-surveying program to qualify. Applications are available in the UAH financial aid office. Applications, with supporting documentation, must be received by the ACEC/Alabama office by noon on Friday, January 13, 2014.
AES Engineering Solutions Scholarship: AES Engineering will be awarding scholarships based on essays submitted by students. The scholarships are open to students from all fields of study.
American Helicopter Society Scholarship Program: The Redstone Chapter, American Helicopter Society, annually offers several merit-based scholarships for students pursuing degrees in math, science, and engineering disciplines and who express potential interest in aviation engineering careers. The minimum funding for each undergraduate and graduate scholarship is $2,000.
America's Best Blogging Scholarship: Open to all currently enrolled and incoming freshman, this $1000 scholarship requires applicants to post a blog entry as a reply to a specific question or topic.
Army ROTC Scholarship: The U.S. Army offers scholarships to high school graduates attending a four year college program. Applicants must meet academic and physical standards, and agree to serve in the Army on active duty or in a reserve component (Army Reserve or Army National Guard). ASCO Numatics Engineering Scholarship: ASCO Numatics, a leading manufacturer of fluid automation solutions, flow-control and pneumatics, will award two merit based scholarships of $5,000 each for U.S. engineering students who are pursuing careers in industrial automation-related disciplines.
ATTSavings.com Scholarship: What's Your Dream App?: Scholarship is available from ATTSavings.com each academic year, where students will be recognized with a $1000 scholarship award. Any student attending college is eligible. For more details please use the website link below.
Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship: The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program supports the education of students planning careers as scientists, mathematicians, or engineers. There will be 6 awards made in Alabama of up to $7500 a year for the junior and/or senior years. Eligible applicants must be current, full-time sophomores or juniors, have at least a B average and be in the top fourth of their class, be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident, must demonstrate an definite interest in a research career in mathematics, natural sciences, or engineering, and must intend to pursue a Ph.D. To apply, contact Professor Harry Delugach at 824-6451 or delugach@uah.edu by October 21.
BrainTrack Nursing Schools Scholarship: To help nursing students currently studying to be become a nurse, such as an LPN or RN, or to advance their education as a nurse via associate, bachelor, master, or doctoral degree programs, BrainTrack's Nursing Schools Scholarship offers a winning and second place award every semester. The scholarship essays submitted by entrants are designed to help others consider becoming a nurse or advancing their nursing education and career options.
Buick Achievers Scholarship: Stories of human achievement are everywhere. The Buick Achievers Scholarship started with that in mind. We want to celebrate motivated, passionate college bound students nationwide. We're offering up to $25,000/year for 100 first-time freshman, renewable up to four years. We are also offering $2,000/year for an additional 1,000 incoming students.
College Prowler Scholarships: College Prowler's $2,000 “No Essay” Scholarship is open to all students and those planning on enrolling within 12 months. The monthly winner will be determined by random drawing and then contacted directly and announced on our Facebook page. One entry per person, but you can come back each month to try again.
Digital Innovation Scholarship: Inkfarm.com is committed to the spirit of entrepreneurship and wants to encourage a deserving student by helping them achieve their educational goals. The $1000 scholarship contest is open to US High School Seniors and currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate college students based on submitted essays describing their personal experience with internet entrepreneurship or the importance of new ideas in the digital realm.
Education-Portal Scholarships: Education-Portal is a comprehensive, free and independent education information resource on the web. Each year they offer a variety of scholarships for both undergrad and graduate students.
The Extend the Dream Scholarship: is provided through funds from the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling. SACAC wants to recognize and reward deserving students. This scholarship is awarded based on financial need, academic achievement and community service. Awards are in the amount of $1,000 and are not renewable.
Scholarship Criteria
Applicant must be a current high school senior graduating from a public, private, parochial high school or home school located in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee or the Caribbean.
Applicant must be accepted by and plan to attend a regionally accredited, non-proprietary, technical, community or four-year college in the fall following his/her graduation.
Applicant must have at least a 2.75 grade point average for grades 9-12.
Applicant must have financial need.
Applicant must demonstrate a commitment to community service, social justice issues, and/or leadership qualities.
Applicant must submit ACT and/or SAT scores.

First in Family Scholarship: The J. Craig and Page T. Smith Scholarship Foundation has designated funding each year to a select number of Alabama students who enroll in Alabama's public or private four-year colleges. Preference is given to students with a record of service to family and community, over grades and exam scores.
GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship: Honoring the legacy and character of our nation's 40th President, the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education.
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program: The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.
Health Professions Scholarship Program: The U.S. Army offers one of the most generous and comprehensive scholarships available in health care today – the F. Edward Hebert Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program (HEPSP). If you want to become a physician, dentist, veterinarian, optometrist, clinical or counseling psychologist, and qualify, you could earn a full-tuition scholarship (including books, equipment, and most course fees), plus a monthly stipend of more than $1,992. The Hundredfold Stipend for Travel Abroad: The Hundredfold Stipend for Travel Abroad as a Contribution to World Peace enables a student in any field to study in Germany for several weeks during the summer. Past winners include a Business major and a Spanish major. The deadline is December 2.
The Huntsville/Madison County Builders Association: The Huntsville/Madison County Builders Association is offering scholarships to anyone interested in pursuing their education in a building industry related field.
Linly Heflin Scholarship: The Linly Heflin Unit is dedicated to furthering the education of young women in Alabama who attend four-year Alabama colleges. Four-year scholarships are available for students who demonstrate financial need and academic proficiency.
Margaret McNamara Memorial Scholarships: The MMMF was established in 1981 to honor the late Margaret McNamara and her commitment to the well-being of women and children in developing countries. The purpose of the grant is to support the education of women from developing countries who are committed to improving the lives of women and children in their home countries.
Scholarship Listing for Minority Students and New Americans
MesotheliomaHelp: MesotheliomaHelp.net offers ten (10) scholarships to students in colleges and universities throughout the United States. Their goal is to help the educational efforts of students while raising awareness of mesothelioma and the dangers of asbestos. Applicants submit an essay chosen from three essays topics.
MortgageRefinanceRates.org Scholarships: MortgageRefinanceRates.org provides scholarships for applicants who are currently enrolled in an engineering, construction, or architecture related field and who are pursuing further education in these areas.
National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth: The National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth provides scholarship assistance to students who are homeless or have experienced homelessness through the LeTendre Education Fund for Homeless Children, established in 1998 in memory of André E. LeTendre, husband of Mary Jean LeTendre, former Director of Compensatory Education for the U.S. Department of Education.
North Alabama Information Systems Security Association: The North Alabama Information Systems Security Association will be awarding an academic scholarship in the amount of $1,500 to an Information Systems Security Association Member or a non-member student of merit demonstrating an interest in the Information Security profession.
Partnership for Biotechnology Research Scholarship: The Partnership for Biotechnology Research will award a limited number of scholarships, based on the availability of funds, to meritorious students in biotechnology related programs (e.g. biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, molecular biology, genetics, etc.). All scholarships are for $500 per academic year. Scholarships are provided to assist academically deserving students.
Rocket 55 Annual Video Scholarship: Rocket 55, a digital advertising agency in St. Paul, MN, is now offering a $1000 annual scholarship opportunity. Eligible students will create a brief video answering the question "What is the story behind the name Rocket 55?" Submissions must be in the form of a creative video uploaded to Youtube by December 31, 2013. In order to qualify, you must be a high school senior or undergraduate college student enrolled at least part time at an accredited college. The five finalists’ videos will be posted on the Rocket 55 Facebook page. After assessing the Facebook response, one winner will be selected to receive the $1,000 scholarship.
Scholarships Available from Philosophical Educational Organization (P.E.O.): Three scholarship opportunities for women are available from P.E.O. (go to www.peointernational.org to read more about this organization).
1. P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship Fund
a. This scholarship is targeted toward women pursuing a graduate degree full-time, who are not US citizens or permanent residents, and who plan to return to their home country after graduation. Applicants must have one full year of coursework remaining before graduation. Scholarships are valued at a maximum of $10,000.

2. P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education
a. This grant is targeted toward women pursuing their undergraduate degree who are US citizens. Applicants must be non-traditional students in the sense that their post-secondary education has been interrupted for at least 2 years and they have now returned to the classroom. Applicants must be within 2 years of completing their degree. Grants are valued at a maximum of $3,000.

3. P.E.O. Scholar Awards
a. This award is targeted toward women pursuing their Ph.D. full-time, who are US citizens and are within 2 years of completing their degree (in addition to their dissertation). Awards are valued at a maximum of $10,000.

The Sell Used Books College Essay Contest: The SellUsedBooks.com Sell Used Books College Essay Contest is designed to help students cope with the rising cost of education. Essays will be judged on originality, organization, strength of ideas, and presentation (including grammar and spelling). Entries must be submitted on or before April 30, 2011 to qualify. One Grand Prize Cash Winner and two (2) Runner-Up Winners will be announced on or before June 1, 2010.
The Science, Mathematics & Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship: The Science, Mathematics & Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program has been established by the Department of Defense (DoD) to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The program aims to increase the number of civilian scientists and engineers working at DoD laboratories and is an opportunity to receive a full scholarship and be gainfully employed upon degree completion.
Sodexo Foundation: Sodexo Foundation is offering $5,000 scholarships to students working to end hunger in America.
Students with disabilities: The following is a listing of scholarship opportunities specifically targeted to students with disabilities.
Southern Automative Women's Forum: The SAWF Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to women admitted to an accredited two-year technical/career program, four-year undergraduate program, or graduate program in preparation for or in furtherance of a career in the automotive industry.
Talbot's Scholarship Foundation: In keeping with its long-standing tradition of helping women succeed, the Talbots Charitable Foundation is proud to present the 2012 Talbots Scholarship Foundation and the Nancy Talbot Scholarship Award for perseverance and ingenuity, which is presented in memory of the founder of Talbots. This program empowers women to enrich themselves through learning and achieve a college education later in life.
The WEDC Foundation: The WEDC Foundation helps women make their dreams of economic independence come true. While over $100,000 in scholarships has been given to 57 women, the program is unique –more than money is given. Financial assistance, mentors and professional development programs are provided to women in Madison, Marshall, Morgan, and Limestone counties of Alabama who are driven to overcome daunting hurdles and obtain a college degree or a technical training certificate.
Construction & Engineering Scholarship: MortgageRefinanceRates.org is happy to provide scholarships for applicants who are currently enrolled in an engineering, construction, or architecture related field and who are pursuing further education in these respectable areas. The Verbal Ink Transcription Services Scholarship: Verbal Ink Transcription Services, one of the country’s most trusted language services providers, is pleased to announce the launch of its new scholarship program. Each spring, Verbal Ink will award a $1500 scholarship to a graduating high school senior or current college freshman.
