Entering Freshmen

GENERAL INFORMATION

UAHuntsville offers two types of scholarship awards for incoming freshmen – departmental and merit.  To be eligible for consideration, students must submit both the Application for Admission and the Scholarship Application.  Once a scholarship application has been submitted, changes other than editing or re-sending email requests for letters of recommendation cannot be made to the application.  Requests for changes should be submitted to the Office of Student Financial Services.  Please read below and follow the links for more information  about available awards and the scholarship application process.

Scholarship Application Process

  • Submit the Application for Admissions by December 1
  • Submit the Scholarship Application online by December 1
  • Merit awards are offered each month from December to February
  • Scholarship Applications  are reviewed by the Office of Admissions and/or select academic colleges
  • Departmental award decisions are made in January and February
  • Departmental scholarship decision letters are mailed by the end of February

Departmental Awards: Deadline for Priority Consideration: December 1

Departmental awards are competitive scholarships made available to students through the generosity of alumni and friends of the University. Studenteiligibility is based on a variety of criteria, including academic interests and achievements, special talents, and demonstrated leadership. The UAHuntsville Scholarship Application is used to determine eligibility for all departmental awards, and should be submitted by December 1 for priority consideration.

Merit Awards: Deadline for Priority Consideration: February 1

Merit awards are available to all admitted  entering freshmen who meet specified academic criteria and submit the UAHuntsville Scholarship Application.  To be considered, the scholarship application, test scores, and high school transcripts must be received by February 1. Students applying after the priority date may also receive consideration as funding is available.

*This includes residents of Alabama and the following Tennessee counties:   Bedford, Coffee, Franklin, Giles, Lawrence, Lincoln, Marshall, Moore and Marion.


Top of the Class Award

A one-time $2,500 scholarship is available for any admitted incoming freshman selected as Valedictorian or Salutatorian of his/her high school class. Students who graduate in the top 10% of the class from a high school that does not identify a valedictorian or salutatorian are also eligible for this award. To qualify, the student must enroll at UAHuntsville in the fall term immediately following high school graduation, and have the high school send official notification of Valedictorian or Salutatorian status (or top 10% ranking, if applicable) to our scholarship office.


National Merit Awards

Platinum Award of Academic Distinction

Students who  are  National Merit Finalists,  National Achievement Finalists, or  National Merit Hispanic Scholars qualify for the Platinum Award of Academic Distinction. This 4-year award is valued at full tuition (up to 16 credit hours per semester), and also includes a $500 course fee stipend, $500 book stipend, an on-campus housing allowance, and a meal plan allowance. Renewal is based on satisfactory academic progress and full-time student status.

 

Gold Award of Academic Distinction

Students who are  National Merit or National Achievement Semi-Finalists qualify for the UAH Gold Award of Academic Distinction. This 4-year award is valued at full tuition (up to 16 credit hours per semester), a $500 course fee stipend and a $500 book stipend. Renewal is based on satisfactory academic progress and full-time student status.

These awards replace any UAHuntsville Merit Award of equal or lesser value.

 

UAH Foundation Presidential Scholarship

The UAH Foundation Presidential Scholarship is based upon academic merit and awarded each year to select incoming first-time freshmen graduating from public high schools located in Huntsville/Madison County, Alabama. This 4-year award is valued at full tuition (up to 16 credit hours per semester) for four years plus $500 toward course fees per year. Eligible candidates must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.00 in addition to a minimum ACT score of 25 or minimum SAT score of 1130. Candidates should submit a UAH Scholarship Application, be fully admitted by the scholarship priority date (December 1), and be recommended by either their high school counselor and/or a UAHuntsville admissions counselor. Renewal is based on satisfactory academic progress and full-time student status.

These awards replace any UAHuntsville Merit Award of equal or lesser value.
