Grants
Grants do not have to be repaid, they are gift aid based on demonstrated need.* Grant eligibility is determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Visit the FAFSA website to begin your application.
Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is a federally-funded grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education. General qualifications regarding the Federal Pell Grants include:
- Effective July 2012, Pell Grants may be received for no more than six full academic years
- Need Based
- Awarded to students with an EFC less than $5,081
- Available to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's degree or professional degree
- Proation based on the number of hours a student is enrolled during a semester
- Students who do not receive their full Federal Pell Grant award during the fall and spring terms are eligible for the remaining amount during the summer

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
The FSEOG is a federally-funded grant awarded by the Office of Student Financial Aid. The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) provides aid to undergraduate students who would not otherwise be financially able to attend college. A student must be accepted for enrollment, show evidence of academic promise, and be capable of maintaining good standing in the chosen course of study. Grants may be renewed for the four years of undergraduate study, subject to the availability of funds, unless a change in the family's financial condition causes the student to be ineligible. Grants are awarded in compliance with eligibility based on federal guidelines.
The SEOG is awarded on a first come-first served basis until available funds are expended.

The Alabama Student Assistance Program (ASAP)
The ASAP program is a state/federal aid program designed to provide Alabama residents financial assistance for undergraduate postsecondary education. Grants are awarded for one year. The grant is renewable, but new application must be submitted each year. All awards are determined by student eligibility requirements, available funds, and student need. Students should contact the Office of Student Financial Services for information regarding eligibility, application, selection, and award procedures

Merit Based
The U.S. Congress has elected to discontinue the Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) and Smart Grant programs after Spring 2011.
