This training session will address various issues that are common trouble points for business owners: Payroll, Tax, and Business Expense

Payroll topics will include:

  • Determining acceptable methods for processing owner compensation
  • Setting up payroll tax accounts
  • Payroll tax deposits and the related penalties
  • Mandatory new hire reporting
  • Employee vs Independent Contractor guidelines

Basis – What is basis? How is it calculated? What types of businesses are impacted?
Most small business owners don’t realize that both the money they pay themselves and the business losses they deduct can be limited by their basis in the business.

Other topics will include an overview of:

  • Business expenses / deductions
  • How to handle personal expenses
  • Use tax filing requirements that are overlooked by most small businesses

Guest Speaker: Amanda L. White, CPA, ALW Accounting & Consulting, LLC

With over 10 years' experience combined in public and private accounting, Amanda is familiar working with business owners in numerous industries and has a proven track record of positive impacts in various settings. Besides having worked in an accounting and finance capacity, Amanda also has nearly 10 more years of hands-on operations and management experience, giving her a unique perspective into the logistics of running a successful business.

Amanda holds both an MBA and a BSBA in Accounting from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and also holds an AAS in Entrepreneurial Management from Calhoun Community College. She is an actively licensed CPA in the state of Alabama, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants (ASCPA), and the Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance.
