#InclusionWorks - National Disability Employment Awareness Month

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), and The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) will observe the occasion by hosting weekly brown bag meetings every Thursday.

The NDEAM 2016 theme is “#InclusionWorks.” The purpose of the national observance is to educate the public about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities.

UAH speakers include:

  • Oct. 6 – David Kyle (UAH Faculty) and the Ability Sports Network: 11:30 a.m. to 1p.m., Spragins Hall/Varsity Room
  • Oct. 13 – Renee Scruggs (Director, Disability Staffing Services, LLC) and Delois Smith (UAH Vice President Diversity and Multicultural Affairs): 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Shelbie King Hall room 102
  • Oct. 20 – David Perez, David Person, and Pat Pope (Phoenix Industries) will discuss on the job coaching and preparing individuals with disabilities for the workforce.
  • Oct. 27 – Nick Conway (Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services) "Disability Etiquette" and "Perspectives on Disability Employment" David Kyle (UAH Faculty): 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Shelbie King Hall room 102.

Seminar attendance is free, but participants must register as soon as possible with Lisa Rivers: Lisa.Rivers@uah.edu.

NDEAM was first established in 1945 by Congress, but called National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week. In 1988 it became known as National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and was extended from the first week of October to the whole month.
