Kathleen E. Kennedy is nearing completion of a book manuscript, Friends with Benefits: Necessary Loyalties and Divided Allegiances in Medieval English Literature, that investigates how medieval authors struggled to come to terms with developing social institutions using an analogous, safe relationship with which they were equally familiar: marriage. She has already published articles dealing with literature and law in the Yearbook of Langland Studies and Chaucer Review.
