A total of 47 high school rising sophomores and juniors from Alabama and beyond checked in at Charger Village on Sunday, July 20th. This week long event began with a lecture on engineering design, followed by a structural engineering challenge involving the construction of a structure that is at least 36" in height using only index cards, tape, and scissors. The structure is supposed to withstand vertical load due to the weight of 10 pennies. Students will attend class conducted by engineering faculty, perform hands-on experiments in engineering laboratories, participate in student life activities, work on project teams, complete homework assignments, meet engineering professionals, and generally have a blast while learning about basic engineering concepts. The BEST experience will culminate with final presentations on Friday, July 25th at the UC Exhibit Hall.

The BEST Experience is partially sponsored by several Huntsville companies including Dynetics, Parker Hannefin, and Northrop Grumman. Other sources of funding include NSF EPSCoR and UAH.

For more information including 2015 BEST experience and/or sponsorship opportunities, please contact Professor Jennifer English, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Affairs, College of Engineering, The University of Alabama in Huntsville at (256) 824 6877.
