Biography

Dr. Gholston is a Professor and Department Chair of the Industrial and Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (ISEEM) Department at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH).  Before coming to UAH, Dr. Gholston worked as a lead supplier quality engineering at the GM Saturn Corporation.  While at UAH, Dr. Gholston has consulted with and done work for several organizations including NASA, Huntsville Hospital, Athens-Limestone Hospital, Listerhill Credit Union, Lawrence County Hospital, and many others.

Sampson has a Ph. D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from The University of Alabama in Huntsville, a Masters degree in Industrial Engineering for The University of Alabama, and a Bachelors degree from Austin Peay State University in Engineering Technology.  He has published numerous technical papers in academic journals, such as the American Society of Engineering Education, the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He speaks frequently at national meetings, conferences, and conventions.  

Dr. Gholston serves as a Director for the Operational Excellence Division of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineering.  His current research interests include applied statistics, human systems integration, data science, and organizational performance.   He currently serves as an examiner for the National Baldrige Performance Excellence Award and the Florida Sterling/Oglethorpe Performance Award.  Dr. Gholston holds many certifications and positions including a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, International Association for Six Sigma Certification (IASSC) Black Belt, Lean Healthcare Certification, and IASSC Accredited Lean Six Sigma Trainer
