G2. Sense and Avoid System using Radar

This project is designed to be a platform independent, object-oriented software solution providing sense and avoid functionality to any platform using ArduPilot, as well as provide a modular framework for integrating any hardware not supporting Ardupilot. This system will collect K band radar data and ADS-B data which will be processed on the NVIDIA Jetson TK1 Board. This data will be used to monitor all obstacles around the platform and generate responses when a potential threat could happen.

G3. Digital Intermediate Frequency Receiver (DIFR)

This project is to develop a digital IF receiver that will efficiently process the signals that are produced by a high range resolution radar. These IF signals include four analog inputs which the receiver is to convert to digital form using an Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) that has a minimum resolution of 12 bits. These signals are of high bandwidth. The resulting digital output signal should interface to the outside world using a common data bus such as a PCI-express or gigabit ethernet. The receiver should interface to the radar’s front end using SMA connectors. Components of the receiver should include a variable gain amplifier (VGA), a band pass filter, an ADC module and an FPGA which will be required for high-speed processing. This project is to develop the custom board design and layout and to test its basic functionality using a reduced set of drivers that are written to facilitate design validation.
