Krishnan K. Chittur, Ph.D.

Dr. Krishnan K. Chittur

Professor, Interim Chair, Chemical and Materials Engineering

Dr. Chittur has more than 25 years experience working on problems that arise from medicine or biology. Dr. Chittur has used Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy to understand the relationship between biomaterial surface properties and protein adsorption, leading in turn to solving problems in biocompatibility.  Dr. Chittur helped write a proposal leading to the UAHuntsville campus Ph.D. program in Biotechnology Science and Engineering. Dr. Chittur directed that Ph.D. program for four years.  Dr. Chittur's research interests today are in understanding gene expression and techniques to study them.  Dr. Chittur is interested in expanding (and using) open source software for engineering education - and has been a mentor to several students with the Google Summer of Code and the Project ASCEND
