Biography

Dr. Banish has worked in thermo-physical property measurements, chemical analysis, and semiconductor and protein crystal growth.  Dr. Banish has a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Utah, 1992.

Dr. Banish was the PI on three thermophysical property measurement projects funded by NASA.  All three project were to be flown on the Mir or International Space Station.  One project, to determine the mass diffusivity in molten indium, was completed in 1994,  he other two other, Self-Diffusion in Liquid Elements and Thermophysical Properties of Te-based II-VI Semiconductor Melts were terminated due to a decision to deemphasize physical science research on the ISS.  Both projects had high scientific evaluations
and were within budget.

Dr. Banish has many years of experience in vacuum and high pressure instrumentation, optical methodologies and chemical analysis.  He has performed a wide range of chemical analysis on solids, liquids and gases and has developed a range of hardware for both high and low temperature operation.  He has experience in or has performed a wide range of optical measurement including holography, interferometry, optical density measurements, and species concentration measurements.  He has developed instrumentation for in-situ species concentration and particle nucleation measurements.  Dr. Banish has a thermal diffusivity methodology paper that is one of the top-ten cited papers in that field.
