Mr. Jack Watson Butler High School Huntsville, AL 35806
SUBJECT: Position Teaching Biology
Dear Mr. Watson:
Mr. Don Ellis Engle tells me that you will have an entry-level biology teaching position to be filled by the end of 2002. When I graduate from the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) in December of 2002, I will hold a BS degree in Biology, as well as an Alabama Class B teaching license, and an athletic training certification. This certification in athletic training will allow me to provide medical coverage for after school sports events. With these qualifications, I would like to be considered for the position teaching Biology at Butler High School. My education classes at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga and the University of Alabama in Huntsville have exposed me to different situations that qualify me for the Biology position at Butler High School. As a student assistant, I worked with the faculty of Oakcrest Elementary School to provide the students with a normal classroom setting while the teachers attended three full-day seminars on teaching techniques beneficial to the classroom. As the substitute teacher, I was responsible for taking the roll at the beginning of the class, assigning homework, and administering the tests for the day. I worked with the students one-to-one, guiding them through assignments. I was also responsible for the students’ timely arrival to various activities. Through this experience, I was also able to develop a good teacher-to-student rapport that has carried over into my current job. As shown on my resume, I now work as a student athletic trainer for UAH. Athletic training has taught me care and prevention of injuries and educating athletes has taught me the necessity and value of proper communication. I have to be able to explain athletic injuries to athletes and their coaches so that they know how to properly care for their injuries to give the injuries time to heal. I have also had the opportunity to sharpen my teamwork skills. Athletic training requires constant communication and adaptability between the head trainer and coworkers. The trainers have to be able to discuss ideas with each other in order to help athletes competing in sports ranging from ice hockey to tennis. Because we all come from different backgrounds, we have learned to treat different sport specific injuries in unique ways. This gives us the opportunity to work as a team and decide on the best course of treatment needed for a specific injury depending on the circumstances surrounding the injury and the athlete. These experiences have provided me with opportunities to learn to recognize and understand many situations that will arise in the day-to-day activities in the classroom. Thus, I believe that I would be a valuable asset to Butler High School, its students, and the community it serves. May we schedule an interview at your convenience? You can reach me at most afternoons at (256) 350-2965. Sincerely, James Enderby
