Co-op Parallel Plan

The Co-op Parallel Program is available for employers who cannot sustain a full-time position. Employers interested in the parallel option should contact the UAH Co-op Office.

Employer and students choosing to utilize the parallel plan must meet requirements of those following the traditional alternating schedule, and must also submit additional information each term.

The following are required of all students hired in parallel positions

  • Parallel Co-op Student Agreement Form
This agreement communicates the requirements of the parallel plan to all parties involved (student, employer, and the Co-op office). The agreement must be signed before student begins working. All requirements stated in this form must be met by students and employers.

  • Undergraduate Job-Related Objectives OR Graduate Job-Related Objectives
These forms are to be completed during the first two weeks of each work term, and enable the student and supervisor to plan work assignments for the term. This is an excellent tool to make the cop-op experience more successful. Signed forms are due by the end of the 2nd week of each term.

  • Address and Schedule Form
This form provides a work/school schedule for each parallel term. By planning the work schedule at the beginning of each term, students and supervisors are able to meet the parameters of the parallel plan (20 maximum work hours each week). This plan structures the position for maximum benefits for the employer and the employee. This form is also due by the end of the 2nd week of each term.

  • Bi-Weekly Labor Report
The Labor Reports are turned in to the Co-op office every two weeks. These reports are used in order to maintain contact between the Co-op office and the Co-op student, and to verify that students meet the correct number of parallel work hours. This helps ensure that students maintain a successful schedule. All bi-weekly labor reports must be signed by the supervisor and the company coordinator.
