SOC 306 Sociology of Gender

The objectives of this course include: to introduce the sociological perspective of gender in society and to familiarize students with the basic theories, concepts, and techniques used by contemporary sociologists to study gender; to assist students in analyzing the status of women and men in society and the consequences for women as a minority group and men as a dominant group; to overview the maintenance of gender stratification through norms, roles, structure and social institutions; and to help develop an understanding of the current issues concerning women and men in society.

This is a required course in the Women's Studies minor.
