"Women in Politics:  Why Women?  Why Now?

         Dr. Natalie Davis


                                          Dr. Natalie Davis holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She completed her undergraduate work at Stetson University.  Currently, Dr. Davis is Professor of Political Science at Birmingham-Southern College, where she joined the faculty in 1972.  In 1996, Davis stepped down as Dean of Graduate Studies to be a U.S. Senate candidate.

A commentator on Alabama and Southern politics, she has been a regular guest on CNN's "CNN & Company" and Alabama Public Television's "For the Record."  Over the years, Davis has provided election night coverage for all of Birmingham's local television stations.  

Davis has been active statewide in the education reform movement, and in community programs dealing with youth development and homelessness.  She has been the recipient                                            of many honors and awards, including "Career Woman of the Year," and one of                                                        Birmingham's "Top 10 Women."
