The Women's
Health Initiative (WHI) is a major research study of women and their
health, focusing on the effect of hormone replacement therapy. They
are inviting participants between the ages of 50 and 70 who are willing to
take hormones (or placebos). The study "will help decide how diet,
hormone therapy, and calcium and vitamin D might prevent heart disease, breast
and colorectal cancer, and bone fractures. It will also help identify any
risks. This is the first such study to examine the health of a very large
number of women over a long period of time. About 160,000 women of various
racial and ethnic backgrounds from 40 communities across the United States
will take part in the study."

The New York Times on the Web has a
Women's
Health page, apparently a follow-on to their Women's Health Special,
which they described as "an in-depth resource covering 28 topics of health
concern, from nutrition to cancer to cosmetic surgery. The Special
section includes several original features, archival New York Times content,
licensed material from The Harvard Guide to Women's Health and The
New Our Bodies Ourselves, and a database of resources for further study."

Whole Health Library: Women's Health: This site provides information about
endometriosis, menopause, eating disorders, and a variety of other matters
relevant to women's health. It is of particular interest in emphasizing
alternative medicine. The company, American WholeHealth Inc., says
it specializes in combining conventional and alternative medicine.
