2005-2006 UAH Ruth Hindman Women's Studies Essay Contest

“Confronting Stereotypes: Moving Beyond Traditional Gender Roles”

First Prize $100

Second Prize $50

                        Third Prize $25

Prizes are funded through the generosity of the Ruth Hindman Foundation

• Open to high school (grades 9-12) and middle school (grades 6-8) students in Madison County, Alabama (private, public, or home school).
• Prizes go to top three winners in each age category.
• Maximum essay length 500 words.
• Deadline extended to Friday, December 16, 2006, 4:00 p.m.
• Topic and contest rules 

Each year since 1995, the UAH Women's Studies program has sponsored a school essay contest honoring women's history month.  The purpose of this contest is to increase the awareness of women's roles in history, to build self esteem, to foster recognition and respect for women, and to encourage the development of students' research and writing skills.

Celebration

Winners will read their essays at an Awards Celebration on the UAH campus scheduled for spring (details TBA).
