Usual instructor: Dr. Brown-Givens
Explores the varied meaningful experiences that we share with other human beings. Through examining several theories of interpersonal communication and relational interaction, this course helps students better understand the ways in which they communicate with each other. Since one of the ways we develop notions of gender is through relationships with others, this course has important implications for gender and vice versa. Gender is one of the filters examined in exploring such topics as conflict management, the relationship between communication and the self concept, perception and perceptual biases, the role of trust, intimacy, and power in relationships.
This counts as the elective in the Women's Studies minor.
