TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS

Tuition scholarships are normally awarded for up to 9 credit hours of graduate tuition, but may vary depending on the financial resources available to the department. These scholarships are usually awarded during the 1st year of graduate study. Students wishing to be considered for tuition scholarships must submit all of their application materials by June 1. GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIPS

These assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis to students in their 2nd year of the program. They are designed to support both teaching in the department and graduate students' professional development. GTAs normally work no more than 20 hours per week. GTA duties may include grading papers, guest lecturing, managing the department research participant pool, and/or other teaching-related functions. These assistantships cover tuition, as well as providing a stipend. Students wishing to be considered for GTAs must submit all of their application materials by June 1. GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS

These assistantships allow students to perform research under the supervision of a faculty advisor. GRAs are typically funded from faculty members' grants and/or contracts, which vary in availability from semester to semester. Students are advised to consult with individual faculty members in the department regarding the availability of GRA funding. Students may receive GRAs in their 1st or 2nd year. These assistantships cover tuition, as well as providing a stipend. Students wishing to be considered for GRAs must submit all of their application materials by June 1. PSYCHOLOGY STUDENT RESEARCH FUND

Psychology majors and graduate students may submit proposals for funding for research supplies
(e.g., special software, equipment, testing instruments) or for travel to a professional conference
to present their work. Students may apply once each semester for funding. Proposals will be evaluated
by the Student Research Fund committee, comprised of two psychology faculty, one undergraduate major in psychology, and one psychology graduate student. Student members will be nominated by psychology graduates and undergraduates and then appointed by faculty of the psychology department.
Proposals should be submitted to the Chair of the Psychology Department. The proposal should provide a short description of the research project (one page maximum) and a budget page detailing how the requested funds would be utilized. The proposal must be signed by the student and a psychology faculty sponsor. A student may be awarded one grant per year. There is a maximum award of $100 per student. Deadlines for grant proposal submission are September 15 for Fall, February 1 for Spring, and June 1 for Summer.

Proposals will be evaluated as deserving or undeserving of funding. Those proposals that are deemed deserving will be funded proportional to the balance in the student research fund. If several proposals are received concurrently, those considered deserving will be rank ordered in terms of quality, and funding will be allocated in this order, proportional to the balance in the fund. Students working to support the fund (e.g., working at the Phonathon) will be given priority.
