CLUBS AND HONORARIES
The UAH Department of History provides many opportunities
for students to participate in history-related activities outside of the
classroom.
All
students are welcome to join the
History Club. Recent activities include excursions to Shiloh National Military Park, to Cathedral Caverns, and to
the recently restored Russel-Erskine Hotel in downtown Huntsville. Other events include a
historic costume party, and an excursion to the Parthenon in Nashville, sponsored jointly with the Society for Ancient Languages.
The Society for Ancient Languages provides an academic community for students devoted to
the study of the languages and ideas of antiquity. The Society meets weekly each semester to read classical, medieval, and later Latin texts. The Society also sponsors public readings, parties, and the visit of a distinguished scholar in the classics each spring.
Students who have earned a 3.5 GPA in the history major and a 3.0 overall GPA are eligible for induction into the UAH chapter of the
national history honorary,
Phi Alpha Theta. From 1989-1994, our chapter of PAT won regional best
chapter awards!
