A Few Words About Myself

If you study German because of its value to you in business (Mercedes Benz) or science (Albert Einstein), psychology (Jung), philosophy (Kant) or art (Dürer), religion (Luther), music (Mozart) or English literature (Wordsworth), you will find me an interested partner in your effort to master your subject matter.  Our GN303 course is a chance for you to combine German with whatever else you find exhilerating.  I will enjoy learning with you, and from you, while we both see what the Germans in your field have to offer.

My own interest is in literature.  One of the things I like about language study is that each language is basically a big poem.
Syllables that haven't stopped vibrating yet.

Some of my favorite smaller poems by others:

In research projects completed at UAH, I have edited two collections of essays:  Arthurian Literature and Christianity: Notes From the Twentieth Century (Garland 1999) and German Literature between Faiths: Jew and Christian at Odds and in Harmony (Peter Lang 2004).   I came here from Western Maryland College in 1990, and was promoted to associate professor in 1996.   Companies which are already international, or would like to begin doing business in Germany, are welcome to contact me for consultation (Cyrano Consultation Services).

I completed my undergraduate work at the University of Pennsylvania, and my graduate work at the University of Virginia.  Click here for my vita.

My wife Sarah teaches French at the Academy for Science and Foreign Language (ASFL), and sings soprano in an early music group and her church choir.  She loves cats, particularly if they're Episcopalian.
